Meryl Streep is starring in Jonathan Demme’s new film Ricki And The Flash. Written by Diablo Cody, it’s about an aging rocker who returns home after leaving her family behind in pursuit of stardom, inspired by Cody’s own mother-in-law. According to Pitchfork, Streep learned to play several songs on the guitar for the movie, including Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” Bruce Springsteen’s “My Love Will Not Let You Down,” and Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs’ “Wooly Bully.” Streep also performs “Cold One,” a track written specifically for the film by Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice, and you can watch a clip from the film of Streep’s Ricki playing the song to her ex-husband (Kevin Kline) and daughter (Mamie Gummer, Streep’s real-life daughter) below.
