Ezra Furman – “I Can Change” (LCD Soundsystem Cover)
LCD Soundsystem’s “I Can Change” is a great song because it makes you feel OK about being really fucking sad. It’s a love ballad turned kinda-sorta apology blackened by the damning language of someone who’s had their heart broken and knows that it’s mostly their fault. But there’s a spark of goofy optimism to be found in James Murphy’s tone that makes “I Can Change” relatable; everyone finds themselves clinging to some kind of dim sense of hope when their relationships are falling apart. Ezra Furman just shared an acoustic rendition of the song on his five-song covers EP, which accompanies his album Perpetual Motion People, if you buy the record at Rough Trade. The EP also features covers of Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut,” the Replacements’ “Androgynous,” and Arcade Fire’s “Crown Of Love.” Listen to “I Can Change” below.
Perpetual Motion People is available now via Bella Union.
