Young Thug Says He Can Write A Perfect Song In 10 Minutes, Offers “Danny Glover” As Proof
Young Thug writes a lot of songs, and apparently, part of his secret is that he doesn’t spend too long on any of them. The late-2013 single “Danny Glover,” which ended up on the Black Portland mixtape, played a big role in getting Young Thug to street-rap stardom. It’s a great song. And as Complex points out, he’s now offering it as evidence that he can write a “perfect song” in 10 minutes.
In a new Dazed cover story, Thug talks about his own form of off-the-cuff songwriting: “I did a song in eight minutes. I thought everybody could write songs that fast. But working with a lot of them, they don’t. Wayne and Drake, it takes them so long to do a song. I understand why, because they want it to be perfect. But I think I can do a perfect song in 10 minutes… I did ‘Danny Glover’ in eight minutes. ‘Stoner’ took me almost an hour.” It might be a bit of a stretch to call “Danny Glover” a perfect song. But this blog post took me more than eight minutes, so it’s still pretty goddam impressive.
