Lionlimb – “Turnstile”
Lionlimb is the resurrected psych-rock project of Nashville songwriter Stewart Bronaugh. Drummer Joshua Jaeger, who has played with Bronaugh in Angel Olsen’s backing band, is now part of the lineup, and they’re set to release their debut 7″ later this fall. A-side “Turnstile” is a polished effort that sweeps their formerly murky vocals into catchy melodic verses. If that sounds bright, lyrics like “Your love is a needle and I stuck it/ Your love is a guitar and I sold it” allude to internal despair for a lost love. Their ’70s rock influence remains strong, as lo-fi guitars and big brass solos wail over a trailing piano verse. Bronaugh weighed in on the single at The FADER:
A turnstile allows one person to pass at a time and usually will only accept you after you’ve paid, whether it’s public transit or a pay toilet in Germany. Your relationship to a person can be like that.
