Chance The Rapper & Noname Gypsy – “Israel (Sparring)”
Noname Gypsy was the only guest on Chance The Rapper and Lil B’s Free (Based Freestyles Mixtape), and her improvised turn on the microphone was memorable for its I-can’t-believe-I’m-doing-this whimsy. On the jazzy, low-key “Israel (Sparring),” her new collaborative single with Chance, she’s way less electric but far more in control, letting words drop from her lips with casual authority. Chance’s typically impressive bars reference everything from Muhammad Ali to the book of Genesis (the song’s title is a reference to the story of Jacob aka Israel wrestling with God). He sounds like a live wire even when he barely raises his voice. Listen below.
