Lushes – “Circus”
The Brooklyn duo Lushes make measured post-rock that inspires apathy in a forgiving way. On “Circus,” James Ardery’s deadpan drawl is all at once soothing and disaffected, countering the song’s harsh initial dissonance. In a sense, this is a song that mediates extremes and does so extraordinarily well; the too-bored-to-stand-up-straight persona reversed by an instrumental section fraught with anxiety. “Circus” is the debut single off the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, Service Industry.
