Stream The Remastered “In My Head” From Intriguing Scott Fagan Reissue South Atlantic Blues
In 1968, an unknown 21-year-old musician named Scott Fagan released a heady psych-pop album called South Atlantic Blues, and it went absolutely nowhere commercially. But the album has a strange history. The New York artist Jasper Johns found the album in a cutout bin in 1969 and used it as inspiration for a series of three artworks known as “Scott Fagan Record.” And Fagan also turns out to be the biological father of the Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt, though the two of them never met until a the premiere of a 2013 documentary about Doc Pomus, Fagan’s mentor and manager. A remastered South Atlantic Blues is about to get a reissue, as Dangerous Minds points out; listen to the epic opener “In My Head” below.
The South Atlantic Blues reissue is out 11/20 on Saint Cecilia Knows and Fagan’s own lil’fish records; Light In The Attic is distributing it. The reissue will come with a conversation between Fagan and Merritt.
