Hear A Previously Unreleased Mount Kimbie x James Blake Collaboration
London duo Mount Kimbie started making foggy, ambient-leaning electronic music around the same time as James Blake, with whom they occasionally collaborated, and both got slapped with the “post-dubstep” tag. Mount Kimbie just began a month-long residency on NTS Radio yesterday, and their old friend James Blake joined them for the first show. As Pitchfork points out, they used the opportunity to share an unreleased, untitled, and apparently unfinished collab from 2009, a pinging, waterlogged thing that’s about as lovely as you’d expect it to be. “When post-dubstep was coined by whatever miserable bastard said that,” Blake said during the show, “I made a joke about your music sounding click-clocky, like coconuts.” Hear the song below, and check out the rest of the show while you’re at it.
Mount Kimbie’s NTS Radio shows air every Tuesday from 2-4PM, and future installments will feature Connan Mockasin, King Krule, Micachu, Midland, James Holden, and James William Basinski.
