Watch Raury Follow Stephen Colbert’s Donald Trump Interview By Performing In An Anti-Trump Jersey
Last night, the tough-to-categorize young Atlanta artist made his late-night TV debut on Stephen Colbert’s new Late Show, and he did it on a particularly high-profile episode. Colbert’s guest was controversial Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who stayed low-key throughout his interview and never really reacted to Colbert’s subtle jabs. And during his performance of the soul-gospel-rap churner “Devil’s Whisper,” Raury found an elegant way to make a stand against Trump and his anti-immigration rhetoric. He wore a Mexican soccer jersey with Trump’s name, crossed out with a big red X, on the back. (He also gave Colbert his own personalized Mexico jersey at the end of the performance.) Talking to Vice about his sartorial choice, Raury said, “Trump embodies separation, solving problems with anger, fear, and personal differences. I’m all about the opposite, about being inclusive and open.” The performance would still be worth watching without that, but good on you, kid. Watch the performance below.
