Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – “Clean Slate”
Rolling Blackouts C.F. - "Clean Slate"
The rambunctious pop rock of Rolling Blackouts C.F. comes stateside from Melbourne, Australia. Their full name, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, reminds me of a ride at Six Flags Amusement Park. It suits them well, because their latest song “Clean Slate” rushes forward with the drive and jubilance of a roller coaster. The cross-country jam follows a skipping bass line with intermittent bouts of guitar shredding to the very end. Vocalists trade off storytelling in a call-and-response fashion, and from the sounds of it, it’s a comical narrative about cutting your losses and starting fresh when things go sour. “Clean Slate” is the first cut from an upcoming mini-album titled Talk Tight, due next year, and it shows Rolling Blackouts C.F. make the kind of crisp, unfussy rock music that’s been all too absent in recent years. Talk Tight is out this March on Ivy League Records.
