Stream Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, & The Rajasthan Express Junun
To make the new album Junun, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood went to India to record with the Israeli-American composer Shye Ben Tzur and with the Rajasthan, a group that plays a few different strains of traditional Indian music. As such, it’s not a solo album, and the album’s packaging takes care not to highlight Greenwood. But Greenwood still involved some of his regular collaborators. Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich recorded the album, and director Paul Thomas Anderson, whose last three movies Greenwood has scored, filmed the sessions for a documentary. We heard a bit of the album when Anderson used the entire song “Roked” in a trailer for the documentary, and no we get to hear the whole LP. NPR has posted a stream, and you can hear the full hour-long experiment below.
Junun is out 11/13 on Nonesuch.
