There was a moment, during Tinashe’s performance on last night’s Tonight Show, when the singer was mid-dance routine and one of her backup dancers tossed her a microphone. She snatched it out of the air, kept singing without missing a beat, and smiled huge. Like everything else about that performance, that moment was obviously heavily rehearsed, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have fucked it up. If Tinashe had dropped or bobbled that mic, she would’ve looked pretty dumb. Instead, she nailed the bit perfectly. She knows exactly what she was doing. Tinashe was on the show to perform “Player,” the single from her forthcoming album Joyride. And she did a version of the song without guest Chris Brown, which means this version was better than the real one. It was super-choreographed, but that’s not a bad thing, since she pulled all of it off. Watch the performance below.
