The 5 Best Videos Of The Week
I tend to value flashiness and fun over relentless weirdness when I’m judging music videos. This week, though, we got two exceptional relentless-weirdness videos, videos that do relentless-weirdness well enough that they stay interesting rather than numbing. Check out this week’s picks below.
5. Robin Schulz – “Show Me Love” (Feat. J.U.D.G.E.) (Dir. Zak Stoltz)
These guys managed to make a cheesed-out romantic EDM video that consists entirely of people falling down and bumping into things, and they found room for a genuinely confounding ending. Salute.
4. Empress Of – “Icon” (Dir. Eli Born)
A convincing argument, in music-video form, that you should try to spend some more time by your damn self, with headphones on.
3. Pusha T – “Untouchable” (Dir. Harrison Boyce)
Pusha T makes the best, meanest faces. That shouldn’t be enough to get a video onto this list by itself, but somehow it is.
2. Nao – “Bad Blood” (NSFW) (Dir. Ian Pons Jewell)
We see enough videos that evoke David Lynch or David Cronenberg. Let’s see some more videos that evoke Terry Gilliam.
1. David Bowie – “★” (Dir. Johan Renck)
We’re going to need a whole lot of gifs of a whole lot of Bowie faces. There is a lot going on in this video, and none of it makes much sense, even though it’s all vividly realized. Somehow, though, Bowie’s faces are the most bewitching thing about it.
