Midlake Form Supergroup Banquet With Members Of Band Of Horses, Franz Ferdinand, Grandaddy
Four members of Midlake, spearheaded by Eric Pulido, have formed a new supergroup called Banquet, and have recruited Band Of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle, and Travis’ Fran Healy to join them. The Dallas Observer talked to Pulido about the new project — they’re recording its first album, Volume I, now, and plan to release it at the end of next year, possibly on ATO and Bella Union.
“It’s a humbling and cool experience to share something like this with some of your musical idols who are also nice people,” Pulido said of the experience. He compared the project to the Traveling Wilburys, the late-80s group made up of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty.
Even with Volume I still in the works, Pulido is already thinking about the next iteration, which he says may see them pair up with different musicians. Some names floated were Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, and John Grant.
