Nap Eyes – “Roll It”
Nova Scotian rockers Nap Eyes are back after dropping the lead single “Mixer” off of their upcoming sophomore effort Rock Thought Fish Scale. We’ve praised the band in the past for their hyper-literate lyrics, and their followup single “Roll It” (which premiered at The FADER) offers more deadpan poetry. The band’s lyrical force, Nigel Chapman, is asking dozens of inward-looking questions that echo truth far beyond his limits as an individual. This makes his questions and ruminations easily and eerily relatable despite such a dry, melancholy tone with no frills. At the 1:50 mark when the driving bass chord gives way to halftime drums and the slight twang of guitar, Chapman’s questions are heart-wrenching in their simplicity. Get ready to get a little existential.
Thought Rock Fish Scale is out 2/5 on Paradise of Bachelors. Pre-order it here and here.
