Watch Kendrick Lamar Debut “Untitled 2” On Fallon
Back in December 2014, Kendrick Lamar appeared on one of the final episodes of The Colbert Report, and he took the opportunity to debut a new song that never even had a title. He still hasn’t released it. And last night, Kendrick was a guest on The Tonight Show, and he did pretty much the same thing. On last night’s show, he debuted a song that I guess is called “Untitled 2.” It’s a fluid, joyous, funky track, one that he performed with a live band, and it’s probably warm and hopeful enough that it would’ve been out of place on last year’s To Pimp A Butterfly, at least until it built to its cathartic, powerful conclusion. Maybe he’ll actually release this one, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Kendrick also sat with an interview with Fallon, and the two of them discussed how Kendrick is happy that he didn’t get more Grammy nominations than Thriller-era Michael Jackson. Fallon also played Kendrick a mash-up of his own “Swimming Pools (Drank)” with the Mario Kart theme music. Watch the interview and the performance below.
You ain’t gotta tell him that he’s the one.
