Abi Reimold – “Vessel”
“Vessel” sees recently-dubbed artist to watch Abi Reimold tapping into the spirit of folk and country greats from the ’50s and ’60s. The starkness of the song is something of an outlier on her forthcoming debut, Wriggling — it features more muscular and intricate compositions, like those heard on lead single “Sugar” — but none possess the feeling that they’re unstuck in time quite like this one. The version that appears on the record is taken from a live session shot by Jay Miller (which you can watch below), and the immediacy and scratchiness of the recording only adds to the displacing quality of the track. “Touch me, but I will not feel/ You can pour and pour, but I will not fill,” Reimold sings enchantingly into the air. “Can’t find a bridge between real and ideal/ Can’t browse the lilies against my will.” Listen below.
Wriggling is out 1/26 via Sad Cactus Records. You can pre-order it on tape or CD here.
