Shirlette Ammons – “Aviator” (Feat. Amelia Meath) (Stereogum Premiere)
North Carolina-based poet, musician, and author Shirlette Ammons is set to release her sophomore album Language Barrier. The lead single “Earth Intro” featured the Grammy-winning duo Indigo Girls. Follow-up track “Aviator” features Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso/Mountain Man, and it is unrelentingly rhythmic and infectious. A slow-building drum beat is paired with matching space age synths, a ringing electric guitar, and lingering atmospheric sweeps for an irresistible groove shifting between genres. The outro even brings in a wonderfully cacophonous flourish of classical strings. Ammons and Meath come together for an insanely catchy harmony, utilizing the same cadence throughout the entire song. I’m going to be humming the hook “All the lovers travel gather your dreams of every nowhere at all” all day. Listen below.
Language Barrier is out 2/5 via Churchkey Records/SugarQube Records. Pre-order is available here.
