Watch Miguel Cover David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” In LA
Part of the appeal of Miguel’s music is the polished production, but when he strips things down he has the vocal chops to go bare with nothing but guitar strums to back him. His Spotify sessions are a testament to that. Last night, in his hometown of LA, Miguel gave an intimate acoustic performance and slipped in a low-key awesome cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” to honor the late rock star’s memory and legacy. Miguel has cited Bowie as an inspiration on numerous occasions, but most recently in an interview with NME before Bowie’s passing in which he specifically said he wished he wrote “Space Oddity” himself and the song would “forever be a classic.” Miguel’s “This is Ground Control to Major Tom/You’ve really made the grade” is so heartfelt, and delivered exquisitely. Watch him sing the first verse of “Space Oddity” before moving to Wildheart’s “Waves” below.
