Coachella Sues Hoodchella
The California desert music festival and blunt font-size ranking institution Coachella is suing LA underground music festival Hoodchella for obviously ripping off the last half of its name. Because it took almost two decades for Coachella to have the cachet it has today, the suit seems warranted. Hoodchella is in its second year and is to be held 4/8-9 at a secret location in LA featuring mostly DJs and producers.
Hoodchella is truly a head-scratcher as nothing about it seems to be authentic. The festival’s promotional posters are lifted from the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, or feature Photoshopped images of cult classic TV shows like Spaceghost and Beavis And Butt-Head with black faces and high, bloodshot eyes. The secret location to be announced is most likely nowhere near any actual hood, unlike TDE’s annual concert and toy drive at the Nickerson Gardens projects in Watts. It’s odd that Coachella didn’t try to snuff Hoodchella the first time around, but now that they’re getting around to it, the festival seems to be in the right.
