Carey hail from East Nashville and are perhaps one of the first bands that we can refer to as being “post-Bully.” Fellow Nashvillian Alicia Bognanno put acerbic, sweaty, Southern garage rock back on everyone’s radar last year with her emotive full-length Feels Like. You can hear some of that influence in the lyrics to Carey’s new single “Hey Caty,” which is essentially a bitter love letter to an ex-friend or ex-lover. It’s filled with a lot of choice, snide one-liners like this one: “And it makes me happy you’re always staring at your phone/ ‘Cause you can’t find your own way home.” We all like seeing the people who hurt us fail sometimes!
