ROMP – “Backfire”
“It feels like we’re going back,” Madison Klarer rips and roars on “Backfire,” the opening salvo to ROMP’s debut album, Departure From Venus. “I don’t mind, I’m alright with that.” That admission fuels the rest of the high-energy track, over in a flash, as the New Brunswick band works up a frenzy over how good and easy it feels to keep repeating the same old patterns. “You still make me laugh, you still have a map of me and how I work/ It’s natural to fall back in,” Klarer says, depicting an old flame as some spinning, soul-sucking vortex that you can’t help but get dragged into over and over again. Like early singles “Last Year” and “Avoiding Boys” before it, “Backfire” is a crystalline example of how heavy of a punch ROMP can throw in a short amount of time. Listen via Impose below.
