Last week, the singer/songwriter Larkin Grimm wrote a post on Facebook in which she claimed that Swans frontman Michael Gira, her former collaborator and Young God Records label boss, raped her in 2008. She also says that she was dropped from Young God when Grimm told him that he’d raped her and that she didn’t feel safe around him. Since then, Gira has claimed that they had a “consensual romantic moment,” and Grimm has responded, “Unfortunately, this was still rape.” And now, in the wake of all this, Grimm has released a new song for abuse survivors.

As Pitchfork points out, Grimm has posted “I Don’t Believe” on her Bandcamp, writing, “This song was written for all the survivors of abuse. You are not alone.” It includes lyrics like these: “I don’t believe that you could ever be / So like those men around you / So hungry.” David Bowie producer Tony Visconti plays bass on the song.
