The 5 Best Videos Of The Week
There are very few bad things about Kendrick Lamar’s new album untitled unmastered., but here’s one: Kendrick probably won’t make any music videos for those songs. That’s too bad! He’s great at making music videos! Every last one of the To Pimp A Butterfly videos was worth watching multiple times, but the off-the-cuff nature of the new project probably means we won’t get an elaborate Colin Tilley directing job for, say, “Untitled 02.” Prove me wrong, Kendrick! In any case, we did get some good videos this week, and five of them are below.
5. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – “Gamma Knife” (Dir. Danny Cohen)
I’ve never been to Australia, but I have seen every Mad Max movie multiple times, which means I find it entirely plausible that the country could support at least one color-coded garage-rock druid-cult.
4. Sunflower Bean – “Easier Said” (Dir. Charlotte Hornsby & Jesse Ruuttila)
Like the King Gizzard video, this one goes really heavy on the ’70s occult-movie vibes, and those are just great vibes. How do I get a job as the tall guy who looms ominously in music videos? I am very tall! I could do that!
3. Kero Kero Bonito – “Lipslap” (Dir. Theo Davies)
Maybe I’d actually watch Fuller House if it involved the wacky adventures of a cohabitating experimental London pop trio.
2. Young Thug – “For My People” (Feat. Duke) (Dir. Be El Be)
Your homework assignment for the weekend: Find someone who was freaked out over Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performance, show them this, and then watch their brains leak from their nostrils.
1. ANOHNI – “Drone Bomb Me” (Dir. Nabil)
I don’t pay much attention to the fashion world. Has Naomi Campbell been conveying emotion like this for the past few decades? Or is that a new thing?
