Autolux – “Brainwasher” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
LA trio Autolux may be your favorite band’s favorite band. Their new album Pussy’s Dead is coming out on Danger Mouse’s new label 30th Century Records. Their drummer Carla Azar plays in Jack White’s touring band and is one of the best in the world according to El-P. They count Thom Yorke and PJ Harvey among their fans. And maybe after you hear their latest single “Brainwasher,” you’ll love them too.
The song demonstrates Autolux’s undefinable style, a sleek and futuristic rock/electronic/jazz/funk/pop composite that makes them a great match for Beyoncé/Run The Jewels collaborator Boots. Pussy’s Dead definitely exists in the same sonic space as his own AQU?RIA, which makes sense: Boots not only produced the album but was so involved that he basically operated as a fourth member throughout the recording process. In the case of “Brainwasher,” the four musicians came up with a wobbly, rhythmically charged, hallucinogenic blast of space-age sound. Listen below with video accompaniment by Thomas McMahan.
Pussy’s Dead is out 4/1 on 30th Century. Pre-order it here.
