Wire – “Internal Exile”
Decades after they helped invent the sound of UK postpunk, Wire continue to sound way sharper and fiercer than a band of their vintage should be capable of sounding. Next month, the band will release a new album called Nocturnal Koreans. We’ve posted the album’s title track, which has a slinky sense of melody to it but which is otherwise just as spartan and propulsive as we’ve come to expect from this band. But “Internal Exile,” the second song they’ve shared from the album, is something else. It’s a lovely, wistful, melancholic pop song, one with its own kind of intensity. Listen to it below.
Nocturnal Koreans is out 4/29 on the band’s own Pink Flag label.
