Kesha Offered “Freedom” From Sony If She Issues Public Apology
Back in February, after Kesha sued her producer and label boss Dr. Luke for sexual assault and emotional abuse, the New York State Supreme Court denied her an injunction that would’ve released her from her contract with Dr. Luke’s Sony-affiliated Kemosabe Records. Kesha appealed the ruling last month, and although The Wrap reported that Sony “is expected to end its working relationship with Dr. Luke,” the producer’s camp denied that ties were being cut. Kesha shared a statement following the initial court decision, and now she’s spoken out again, saying she was offered a deal to be released from her contract on the condition that she apologize and say she was never raped. “I will not take back the TRUTH,” she writes. “I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.” Read her full message below.
UPDATE: In response to Kesha’s post, a representative for Dr. Luke has issued the following statement to Rolling Stone:
The Court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims. That’s because all the evidence — including Kesha’s own videotaped sworn testimony — show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered into new contracts with Dr. Luke years after this “incident” supposedly happened. Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones. We look forward to our day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies.
