My Morning Jacket Announce It Still Moves Deluxe Reissue
My Morning Jacket have announced a deluxe reissue of their 2003 album It Still Moves, which will be released at the end of May. The new version will include updated mixes of all the tracks — to remove “the wet blanket that was lying on top of the speakers,” as frontman Jim James puts it — plus demos of ten album tracks, recorded to four-track tape in James’ bedroom. “It Still Moves is really the only record in our catalog that I’ve always felt I wanted to remix,” James tells The New York Times. “Part of the fun of that record was that we recorded it all to tape, and it was all super-duper organic. But when we mixed it originally, we didn’t have enough time. We thought we were happy with it, but there are certain things that bothered me when I would listen to it, like, ‘Oh my God, you can’t hear that guitar solo.'” The reissue will also feature three songs that were recorded during the sessions for the album but left off the final release. Two of them have never been released in any form, while one, “Grab A Body,” was released as part of a Record Store Day single in 2012. Listen to that below along with new mixes of “Golden” and “Mahgeetah.”
The deluxe reissue of It Still Moves will be out 5/27 on ATO. Pre-order it at iTunes, Amazon, or the MMJ store. James also says that another MMJ album is in progress, and he has a new solo album coming up as well.
