Deftones – “Hearts/Wires”
On Friday, moody metal masters Deftones return with Gore, their first album in four years. The first two songs we’ve heard, “Prayers/Triangles” and “Doomed User,” are exactly the sort of things we’d want to hear from this band. They’re grand, heavy, and deeply emotive. And the same is true of “Hearts/Wires,” a song that the band recently debuted on BBC Radio 1. “Hearts/Wires” starts out quiet and atmospheric, but it takes its time building up, and then it surges and crashes while still maintaining a fundamentally delicate feeling. The BBC presenter Daniel P Carter interviewed Deftones frontman Chino Moreno a bit about the song, and you can hear the interview and the song itself (which begins at the 2:37 mark) below.

Gore is out 4/8 on Warner Bros.
