Scotty ATL – “Clockin In” (Feat. BJ The Chicago Kid)
When you put a city like Atlanta in your moniker, you’ve got to have some serious gumption about you. Scotty ATL is not meek in the slightest, and a good five years in the rap game has made him more confident. His debut mixtape, Summer Dreams, was solid; he pretty much demolished every original or jacked beat he rapped over while besting the homies and local peers he featured. Now he has a tendency to do that with bigger names, outshining or holding his own with the likes of B.o.B., Devin The Dude, and Curren$y on last fall’s The Cooligan. Ahead of his We Got Tricked mixtape with B.o.B, he shares the loosie “Clockin In” with BJ The Chicago Kid.
This joint is a certified banger. The beat is the perfect balance of triumph and peril, and Scotty rides it well with an agile southern drawl and gritty hustle raps. BJ does what he’s done for about a decade now, coming in with a hook that combines beautiful crooning and some gutter griminess on the gangster tip. The huge, melodic, big band horns to propel the track surround by intricate, dry trap drums with plenty of knock shifts seamlessly from the ideal platter for soulful wails to elevating hard rhymes. Check it out.
No word on a release date for We Got Tricked, but I have a feeling Scotty is going to be carrying it on his back.
