New Rolling Stones Album Coming This Year
Hey, we all loved A Bigger Bang, right? Bridges To Babylon? Voodoo Lounge? Straight classics! So we will all doubtless be amped as fuck to learn that there will probably be a new Rolling Stones album this year. Talking to the Associated Press, guitarist Ronnie Wood says that the band are thinking they’ll release their new album — their 25th studio effort, and their first in more than a decade — before the end of 2016.
According to Wood, they’ve been working on new songs, but they’ve also been playing covers of blues standards from people like Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter: “They really sound authentic,” he reports. He uses the word “authentic” more than once: “”We went in to cut some new songs, which we did. But we got on a blues streak. We cut 11 blues in two days… When we heard them back after not hearing them for a couple of months, we were, ‘Who’s that?’ ‘It’s you.’ It sounded so authentic.”
We have a few decades of recent experience telling us that a new Rolling Stones album won’t be anything to write home about, and the idea of aging white men calling their blues covers “authentic” does not have a great history. But the Rolling Stones are one of the greatest bands of all time, so maybe let’s not underestimate them. This could be something!
