Kvelertak – “1985” Video
Next month, Norwegian rock Vikings Kvelertak will follow up their fun-as-fuck 2013 album Meir with an new one called Nattesferd. And this morning, as Pitchfork reports, they dropped the video for “1985,” the engine-revving first single, which sounds more like old-school classic rock than it does like the black metal scene that produced the band. But there’s not a whole lot fun about the video, which tells the story of a group of dude friends who break into swimming pools at night, smash up abandoned buildings, and, eventually, kidnap and terrorize strangers. By the time the video ends, they’re into some real Funny Games shit. Below, watch the video and read a statement about it from director Fredrik S. Hana.
Hana writes:
In my third collaboration with Kvelertak, I wanted to make a music video where the story and characters took the center stage. The video revolves around a micro-community, a four man cult, where a deep and twisted friendship lies beneath it all. They don’t see themselves as a part of the normal society and decide to honor their differences in a unique fellowship. We follow the character’s growing addiction to push limits, and in the end, their incompetence to see any real consequences with their actions. I wanted to get across the fantastic feeling of being a part of something, but also the dangers of not daring to take a stand, to just swim along with the current.
Nattesferd is out 5/13 on Roadrunner.
