No, André 3000 Is Not Making An Album With Chris Rock And Jack White
Last night, Chris Rock posted the above photo on Instagram, along with this caption: “Me , Dave , D-nice , jack white and jarobi hard at work on the new Andre 3000 album.” That’s the kind of thing that gets people excited. An André 3000 solo album? Featuring Jack White? And two New York golden-age rap greats? And two of the greatest stand-up comics of all time? But, see, here’s the thing. Chris Rock is a comedian. Comedians sometimes tell jokes.
So, no, it does not appear that all these people got together to work on an André 3000 album. Rather, it appears that this was just an extremely fun late night hang session at Q-Tip’s house in Englewood Cliffs, NJ after Tuesday’s Phife Dawg Tribute in Harlem with a whole bunch of famous people who we all wish were our friends. Judging by the original photos from photog DJ D-Nice (regrammed by A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi White before they got deleted) all these luminaries got together on the spur of the moment to celebrate the life of the Five Foot Assassin and watch the classic hip-hop movie Beat Street. D’Angelo, Queen Latifah, and De La Soul’s Posdnuos were there, as well, and we are all lameasses for missing out on it…
We’ve reached out to a couple of publicists, and we’ll let you know if this magically changes. But yeah, no, don’t expect an album to come out of this. Just feel good knowing that all these people are friends with each other.
