Museum Mouth – “Lacquer”
North Carolina trio Museum Mouth are set to drop their fourth album, Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig, in a little over two weeks. We’ve already heard the lead single “Incubus Tattoo,” and followup “Riff From My Head.” Today they share their latest offering, “Lacquer,” via the FADER.
The song has the band settling back into the shoegazing lovelorn laments of 2014’s Alex I Am Nothing. Rumbling, rhythmic guitar and crashing cymbals lay the foundation before gloomy lyrics come in to cement the melancholy. You know what you’re in for from the detailed storytelling that only someone lost in love could express. Frontman Karl Kuehn opens with: “you weren’t born in the summer, so your hair was softer than mine” and the rambunctious excursion of a love left unreciprocated comes vividly to life. Check it out.
Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig is out 4/29 via Rory Records. You can pre-order it here.
