Watch Chris Martin Cover Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” With 8th Graders
Yesterday, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin performed at Chords 2 Cure, a Santa Monica benefit concert to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Martin played a short set with A-Side, a band of eighth graders from the Crossroads School, performing Coldplay’s “Twisted Logic” live for the first time ever and closing with a cover of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” in honor of the late legend. “Yesterday I said, ‘Let’s do this song. It’s a very famous Prince song,'” Martin said before the performance. “And they said, ‘We don’t know it. We’ve never heard of it. We’re like 14.'” But they successfully learned it in a few hours, and you can watch Martin share lead vocals with a young cancer survivor named Jaxon below.
