Cat’s Eyes – “Be Careful Where You Park Your Car”
British postpunk duo Cat’s Eyes are in full swing for the upcoming release of their album Treasure House. They’ve already shared “Chameleon Queen” and “Drag,” and today they follow up with a blistering, scornful warning in “Be Careful Where You Park Your Car.” Rachel Zeffira’s lovelorn strength and conviction are incongruously delivered through a fun, playful melody. When Zeffira sings “You looked a little too pleased when you saw her cry” you can picture a car being demolished by the rage of a woman wronged, but the handclaps, background hums, and interjecting shouts inspire a feel reminiscent of Motown’s Marvelletes. That is until the frenetic, surf-y shoegaze comes in to lift the energy before the song ends. Sometimes when women are calm, but you can tell they’re mad as hell, it can be much scarier than all-out rage. And this song is like the calm before the car-smashing storm. Listen.
Treasure House is out 6/3 on RAF. Pre-order in multiple formats here.
