River Tiber – “Acid Test”
Toronto producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Tommy Paxton-Beesley, better known as River Tiber, has had a couple of stellar one-offs hinting at something more following last year’s When The Time Is Right EP. “Illusions” and “Gravity” were big collabs, with Pusha T on one and fellow Canadian Kaytranada on both. Neither of those tracks is on Paxton-Beesley’s newly announced Indigo album, and if he feels he can leave those slappers off, it must be pretty damn good.
The first official offering from Indigo is “Acid Test.” It’s a smooth, synth-doused R&B joint with the multifaceted producer employing his floating falsetto over silky, groovy beat. Deep, quivering bass, ethereal sweeps, and intricate drums with enough knock for two songs combine for a magnetic experience. He sings, “We are not on the same plane/ I cannot show you the way,” evoking the feelings and thoughts that rush through you after giving your relationship a litmus test and having the colors disappointingly read differently than you hoped they would. If this first foray is any indication, Indigo will be lovely. Listen.
