Young Jesus – “Baked Goods”
Last year, Chicago-bred (but currently Los Angeles-based) Young Jesus put out their impressive sophomore album Grow/Decompose, and they’re following that up with a two-track EP called Void As Lob at the end of this week. “Baked Goods” is the A-side to their new release, and it’s a tortured and melancholic four-and-a-half-minutes in which vocalist John Rossiter repeatedly asks “tell me why” but receives no clear answer. The band is only getting tighter as they age, and the track is designed as an intricately interlocked ebb and flow that ends with Rossiter shouting out words against an ascending backdrop before everything falls out completely. Listen below.
Void As Lob is out 5/19. You can pre-order it digitally here or on tape via Funeral Sounds here.
