Cymbals Eat Guitars – “Wish”
In recent years, Staten Island’s Cymbals Eat Guitars have become one of our greatest sources for expressive, fiery guitar music. And now they’ve announced plans to follow up their impressive 2014 album LOSE with a new one called Pretty Years, which is coming out in a few months. Indie rock all-star John Congleton produced the album, and the band has spoken of chasing a “more energetic sound.” You can certainly hear that in first single “Wish,” which has a big, Springsteenian hook and a few out-of-control sax squawks. Listen to the track and read a statement from the band below, via Pitchfork.
Bassist Matthew Whipple says:
We wanted to make a more energetic record. I personally looked to artists like Springsteen, ’70s Bowie, The Smiths, The Cure, Neil Young as inspiration for—not really for sound as much as for that dichotomy of bands who were entertainers still making, at times, weird dark music and writing songs that seem totally over-the-top by today’s rock band standards.
Pretty Years is out 10/2 on Sinderlyn.
