Stream William Tyler Modern Country
The guitarist William Tyler makes lovely, bucolic instrumental music — often on his own, always while fingerpicking on an acoustic guitar. But on his new album Modern Country, Tyler has lined up a number of collaborators, including Phil Cook and Wilco’s Glenn Kotche. The new album is still grounded in folk, but it goes off on some tangents, and Tyler has spoken about how he intended the album to be a salute to a dying form of American culture. Whatever his intent, it’s a stunning and beautiful piece of music. We’ve posted the early songs “Gone Clear,” “Kingdom Of Jones,” and “Sunken Garden.” And right now, you can stream the entire album below, via NPR. You should do that.
Modern Country is out 6/3 (and 6/10 in Europe) on Merge.
