Metronomy – “Night Owl”
British Dance rock outfit Metronomy are back after a two-year break since 2014’s Love Letters. They’ve already unveiled the lead single, “Old Skool” from their upcoming album, Summer 08 (not to be confused with Vince Staples’ Summertime ’06). Today, they’ve returned with the followup “Night Owl.” Where the lead single was pure funky dance indulgence, this new one is somber but still highly danceable in its own right. A groovy bass line, a classic dance drum pattern, and a bevy of spacey synths and sweeps lift Joe Mount’s jaded hook about the futility of the late-night hookup game. The incongruity of his apathy and the irresistible grooves make it difficult to choose between just dancing or dwelling in your feelings, but you’ll definitely be doing something. Listen.
Summer 08 is out 7/1. Pre-order it here.
