Morrissey Will Play The UK A Year After Saying He’d Probably Never Play The UK Again
Last year, before playing a two-night stand at London’s Eventim Apollo, Morrissey wrote that those shows might be the last he’d ever play in his homeland: “There is absolutely no way that we can generate any interest from record labels in the United Kingdom, therefore the imminent two nights at Hammersmith are likely to be our final ever UK shows.” You’re never going to believe this, but it looks like Morrissey has had a change of heart (or maybe he’s realized that he has three decades of music that people want to hear, and that a live show doesn’t have to be pegged to a new record). On his True To You website, Morrissey has just announced that he’ll play a hometown show 8/20 at the Manchester Arena, with Irish singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey opening. That’ll be less than a year after those London shows. Of course, there’s always the chance that he’ll cancel at the last second and that those London shows will be his last UK ones. Morrissey keep you on your toes!
