Hanni El Khatib – “Come Down”
Indie rocker Hanni El Khatib has a knack for understated injections of groovy rhythms into straight up rock ‘n’ roll. The latest offering is the infectious “Come Down.” It’s really just one continuous, irresistible hook surround by whomping synth bass, boom-bap drums, an intricate chicken grease chord, and quick electric guitar solo. But it’s brazen and audacious in the defiant repeated refrain “If God’s gon’ come down/ She better come now / If she ain’t gon’ come/ I’m gon’ do what I want.” It captures the absolute indulgence in living a life without the perception of consequences. It’s like a maturation of Rae Sremmurd’s youthful hedonism wrapped in guitar strings and catchy grooves. Listen.
