Watch Hip-Hop Honors Pay Tribute To Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah
For a while, VH1 aired its annual Hip-Hop Honors show as a sort of unofficial hall of fame, a fun chance to pay tribute to some classic rappers every year. The network stopped airing the show six years ago, but it came back last night in an “All Hail The Queens” special, honoring some of the women of rap music. The show paid tribute to Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Salt-N-Pepa, and Queen Latifah, all of whom were in the building and some of whom performed. And it included appearances from luminaries ranging from Remy Ma to Michelle Obama. Highlights included Latifah’s “U.N.I.T.Y.” performance, which featured appearances from a group of female rap legends that ranged from Sha-Rock to Mia X, and Lil Kim’s performance of Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s “Get Money,” which featured Rich Homie Quan performing Biggie’s verse and spectacularly fucking it up. The whole event was a whole lot of fun, and though Viacom’s video embeds don’t seem to work, you can watch all the highlights here.
