Young Summer – “Paused Parade”
DC-based indie pop songstress Young Summer made wonderfully sculpted synth-pop tunes on her debut LP, Siren, a couple years ago. But as a testament to her growth and versatility, today she shares the subdued, jazz-tinged “Paused Parade.” Beautiful, sparse piano drives the track, along with subtle accents of intricate percussion, and pulsing, sustained synths that slowly build around her gauzy, wonderfully textured voice. She vividly laments about the duality of the mind, contrasting moments of chaotic, overwhelming thought with a serenity that comes from knowing yourself well. Co-written with Aqualung’s Matt Hales, the lyrics are potent and penetrating, belying the softness and delicacy of their delivery. Listen.
