Rosemary Fairweather – “Calling Listening”
Dream-pop merchant Rosemary Fairweather has had an impressive string of singles this year. We’ve already posted “Chemicals,” and since then she’s dropped another gauzy, hazy floater in “Moonlight.” Her latest track is “Calling Listening,” a slow-building, synth-soaked wonder with a dance-tinged edge that leans retro. Fairweather’s wispy vocal harmonies tread a dense soundscape with quick, complex drum patterns, layers of sustained and bouncy synths, and groovy bass. She gives a simple explanation for the inspiration behind the song saying, “‘Calling Listening’ is a love letter to French retro pop.” But it feels like a lot more than that. Listen.
