NOTS – “Inherently Low”
Memphis’ Nots will release their new album, Cosmetic, in September, and we premiered its debut single “Entertain Me” last month. Today, the band shared the similarly acerbic, commanding track “Inherently Low.” Natalie Hoffmann sets the scene at a show in the song’s opening verse (“I saw you last night/ I saw you at the show/ You were always smiling/ Like you already know”) and her lyrics delve into the abstract from there. It’s not explicitly clear who she’s singing to, or what this song is about, but the frustration that inspired it is palpable, anchored by a doom-and-gloom, repetitive chorus. Inherently/ Inherently/ Inherently low. Listen.
Cosmetic is out 9/9 via Goner/Heavenly.
