Saba has been all over the supremely special moment Chicago is having right now. Every feature he’s had on the recent really good Chicago projects has had a wonderful spark and energy to it, from Joey Purp’s “Cornerstore” to Jamila Woods’ “Emerald St.” and Chance The Rapper’s “Angels.”

He’s been quiet on the solo tip since 2014’s ComfortZone, though. That was a solid tape, but this first single from the upcoming BucketList hints at bigger and better things for the rapper/producer. “Symmetry” is a synth-doused R&B slow-burner which sees Saba easing through locked-in cadences, sing-song raps, and actual singing, showcasing his versatility past the 16 bars he’s been killing lately. Here’s what Saba had to say to NYLON about the song:

“Symmetry” is about finding your other half, or better half, even. They say the most beautiful people have symmetrical features, and that that’s what beauty is. I tried to take that concept and expand on it to say that symmetry in life is when everything lines up, things just start to make sense.
