MOR-Skewing Queens Festival Cancelled A Week After It Was Announced
The music festival business is not in great shape right now. Just last week, City Winery and Madison House Presents announced City Winery Open, a two-day music, food, and wine festival scheduled to take place at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium in September, featuring performances by Aretha Franklin, Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan And The Wallflowers, Gillian Welch, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Dawes, Josh Ritter, Deer Tick, Houndmouth, and the Wild Feathers. And now, as The New York Times reports, it’s already been called off.
Organizers announced today that the inaugural City Winery Open has been cancelled and will instead be held next year. “We needed much more time to fully produce an event of this magnitude,” said City Winery founder Michael Dorf in a statement. “We sincerely apologize for the premature and unprepared enthusiasm that fueled going on sale with this unprecedented festival. We really want the first year to be a huge success and just need the additional time to make it work correctly.” All ticketholders will receive a full refund.
