Animal Feelings is the NY-based artist Oli Chang’s latest project. Chang is best known for making highly danceable dream-pop alongside Jack Milas in High Highs. He’s taken those sensibilities along with tricks he’s learned with a collaborative, open mind and infused them with rhythmic synth work and atmospheric sweeps on “Chemical Love,” the second single from Animal Feelings’ debut full-length out now. Chang lays rich, bubbling synth patterns and subtle drums as Nomi Ruiz’s gauzy, floating vocal delicately lulls with catchy melodies and deceptively penetrating lyrics. Then rising harmonies swell with emotion and the surrounding rhythms for an ear-worm hook that you’ll be singing for the rest of the day. Listen.
